Encounter Bicentenary
April 5th-9th 2002

In the summer of 2000 the French consulate spent time in the district preparing for the 200th anniversary celebration of the meeting between explorers Matthew Flinders and Frenchman Nicholas Baudin. This meeting took place off the area, now known as Encounter Bay.
The bicentenary of the voyages of Matthew Flinders and Nicholas Baudin and their encounter off the southern coast of South Australia on April 8, 1802 took place from 2001-2003.
